Updating aircraft equipment list

Repairs and alterations are the major sources of weight changes.

It is the responsibility of the FAA-certificate mechanic or repairman making any repair or alteration to know the weight and location of a change, to compute the CG, record the new empty weight and EWCG in the aircraft weight and balance record, and update the equipment lists.

Fortunately, the replacement of older, heavy electronic equipment with newer, lighter types results in a weight reduction.

This weight change, however helpful, can cause the CG to shift, which must be computed and annotated in the weight and balance record.

The above two conditions must exist to meet the FAA's definition of "airworthy".

The following is a list of documents with a brief explanation of each. The 8130-6 form is used to apply for a standard and special airworthiness certification, and the 8130-1 form is to apply for an export certification.2. The type certificate data sheet (TCDS) is like a birth certificate, and provides a formal description of the aircraft, engine or propeller that has received type certification by the FAA.

You can download a copy of the TCDS for your aircraft, engine or propeller here. If the aircraft has been registered outside the United States, this information is useful in determining what records the FAA DAR will begin reviewing first.4. If the aircraft was purchased from someone in another country or it is returning to the U. after being leased to an operator in a foreign country, there will usually be an export certificate of airworthiness issued by the foreign civil aviation authority.

The foreign export airworthiness certificate is supposed to indicate that the aircraft meets the FAA requirements.
